Their love for God and their commitment to youth is what brought them together! It was April of 2010 while working on a youth conference, where they started noticing each other. Then on June 7th, 2010, they attended the graduation party for Derek’s mentee. That was the night they began their story. Their first date was at Season 52 in Altamonte Springs, Florida, followed by a romantic walk holding hands in Crane Roost Park.
Determined to keep their relationship private and prayerful, it wasn’t long before their courtship bloomed. Having their Pastor’s blessing, Derek asked Chrain on July 19th, 2010 if she would agree to a courtship with him. Of course, she said yes!
Their courtship has been filled with ups and downs, each bringing them closer together. What they have is unique. Their care, respect, and admiration for each other is what keeps them falling in love over and over again!
After 5 1/2 wonderful years of courtship, Derek took Chrain to Savannah, Georgia for what she thought was a getaway. Instead, on Saturday, January 9th, 2016, Chrain’s dreams came true. After a beautiful horse and carriage ride through Downtown Savannah, they prepared for dinner at the Old Pink House. Taking a brief pause for what was supposed to be a “picture opp,” Derek led Chrain by the hand to Reynolds Square. He asked, “May I have this dance?” She giggled and said, “I would love to!” With Boyz II Men’s “Amazed” playing, they danced and held each other tight. As the song came to an end, Derek pulled out a ring box as he got down on one knee. Chrain screaming, crying, and trying to regain her composure, Derek remained on one knee. Finally, he was able to say, “Chrain Antionette Simes, would you do me the honor of being my wife?” Nearly blinded by the beauty of the diamond ring, Chrain finally said, “Yes! Yes!” One of the most beautiful evenings of their courtship by far.
God has been and still is the center of all they do. “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-8.
Their Love Story is just beginning…

Our engagement session with AJ was professional, personal, and creative. The experience was much more than we expected. AJ kept the creativity flowing the entire time. The location was chosen because of its uniqueness and beauty. Our advice for future engaged couples is to be yourselves, have fun, and enjoy the experience. AJ went over and beyond to make our pictures magical in that he scouted the location before we arrived and had ideas already prepared before it was time for the shoot. We were definitely inspired to be ourselves. We had an amazing time and our love for each other radiated through each picture. We were so happy to do our engagement session because it allowed us to see AJ’s work before our wedding day, as well as, gave us more than enough confidence that he will capture our special day with ease.
